Bike Project Overview
Is cycling cool or not? Well, until recently most young people in this country would have said certainly not. But there are the so-called
cycle-friendly countries, where cycling is not only cool but chic. And now, even in the UK, some trend-setters are latching on to the fact that sitting on a bike in a town is a great way to get around, yet be relaxed enough to feel at ease with how you look. What’s more, it’s eco-friendly, makes for a better urban environment, and keeps the body in trim without really thinking about it.
But is Darlington, a Cycle Demonstration Town that is supposed to be pioneering more cycling, big enough to have its own Cycling Chic? This project will soon find out.
Darlington Media Group are offering a number of local young people the opportunity to feature in a project which will explore their ideas about street fashion and cycle chic. Selected participants will have starring roles in a broadcast documentary and a major exhibition of fashion/portrait photography.
The team are holding a casting session on Thursday 24th July, open to 10-25 year olds with fashion sense who can commit to participating in interviews, video and still photography shoots on specific dates (TBC) over the coming year. The project will explore ways of combining fashion and cycling that express independence and individuality - travelling in style!
WHEN: Thursday 24th July, 12 noon to 7pm.
